Best Bank SEP IRA CDs

Finding the best bank SEP IRA CDs is quite difficult.  Because there is extra reporting the banks and credit unions have to do, most just don’t offer the product.  Which really stinks, it makes it hard to find any sort of high interest rate.

SEP IRAs (SIMPLE IRAs also) have larger contribution limits and are designed for the self-employed or small business onwer.  I’ll discuss the limits on another day, but it seems to be the banks and credit unions are afraid of making a mistake and being fined by the government or messing up your IRA.

The first place to start looking for rates are your local banks and brokers.  They may have a special going on and if the bank is medium sized, they probably offer SEP IRA and SIMPLE IRA accounts.

Otherwise, Alliant Federal Credit Union in Illinois and Pentagon Federal Credit Union in VA are two places that I know of that will take SEP IRAs and they routinely have some of the highest IRA rates in the country.  Both have open membership, although Alliant is a little harder to join, especially if you can’t make a branch visit.  However, once you are a member, they both have excellent customer service.
